in the Japanese Alps
created by Yasmin & Gofko
View ItineraryPicture this: you wake up to fresh snowfall blanketing a centuries-old Japanese village. Steam rises from outdoor hot springs as the mountain air bites your cheeks. By mid-morning, you're carving through waist-deep powder in the Japanese Alps — and by evening, you're slurping hand-pulled ramen, warming up in a traditional onsen, and swapping stories with new friends. This is Nozawa Onsen, and this March, we want to share it with you.
This isn't a resort holiday behind glass windows. It's a week of living Japan from the inside — the cold powder under your board, the warmth of a shared meal, the silence of snow-covered cedar forests, the buzz of a village bar at midnight. Whether you're a first-timer or an expert, kids, families, couples, solo adventurers — everyone belongs here.
We've designed one full week (6 nights) to be as accessible and affordable as possible. Fly in early, stay late — we encourage you to explore Tokyo or other parts of Japan on either side of our dates. From Tokyo, the journey is a breeze: a Shinkansen bullet train whisks you to Iiyama in under two hours, and we'll help arrange the rest.
We handle the logistics, you bring the excitement. All we ask: check the visa requirements for Japan based on your passport, and come ready for the adventure of your winter.
Stay, Ski & Slow Down
Fall asleep on tatami mats, wake up to snow-dusted mountain views. Yukiguma Lodge is our base — a warm, welcoming guesthouse where mornings smell like fresh coffee and evenings end around a crackling fireplace.
We've kept it cozy and affordable: shared rooms for 3–4 people, a communal kitchen to make breakfast your way, fast Wi-Fi for anyone needing to check in with the outside world, and a location within walking distance of the slopes.
Currently 2 rooms booked (one for 3, one for 4), with a third room option if the group grows. Gofko and Yasmin will be right there in the same lodge — always around if you need anything.
There's a reason skiers whisper about Nozawa with reverence. As one of the snowiest areas in all of Japan, the mountain delivers the kind of deep, dry powder that turns ordinary runs into floating-on-clouds moments.
From gentle beginner slopes to steep tree runs that'll make your heart pound, Mt. Kenashi has terrain for every level. And for freestyle riders — the Kaminodaira Snow Park stretches 2 km with kickers, rails, boxes, and a halfpipe.
Lessons aren't included but we'll happily arrange them, same with gear rental for those flying light. All you need to bring is the stoke.
When the lifts stop spinning, the real magic begins. Nozawa Onsen is a centuries-old village that feels untouched by time — narrow lantern-lit streets, steam rising from stone bathhouses, the sound of wooden clogs on cobblestone.
Soak tired muscles in 13 free public onsen scattered through the village. Eat your way through izakayas serving the best tempura soba and gyoza you've ever had. Learn to roll onigiri by hand. Visit the wild Snow Monkeys at Jigokudani Monkey Park — included in the package.
And when the night calls? Gofko might spin a set at one of the local bars — think sake on tap, Japanese whisky, new friends, and the kind of nights that become the stories you tell for years.
